- First off, if you think that you will ever need a pump like this, you need to buy it now. If there’s a weather event where you might need to remove water from someplace it doesn’t belong, all of your neighbors will have already bought all the available ones (personal experience speaking here).Because of that, I have always kept a couple of smal submersible pumps in the garage – I used them to remove water from my basement years ago. Since then, I’ve needed them a couple of times for other things – they’re useful tools to have around. I loaned one of my pumps out and never got it back, and the other started tripping the GFCI every time that I used it. Time for a new one.First off, this is a serious-sized pump. 1.5HP is bigger than my old ones. I lowered it into our pool for a test run (see photos above). It shot a good stream of water well past the other side of the pool. Great pressure and flow, and no – the GFCI didn’t trip out.This pump comes with a floating switch, which would allow it to be used in a sump-pump type service. It has a bracket that allows you to position the switch in an always-on position if you don’t need the float (see photo). I didn’t see any exterior metallic parts, which is a good thing, as there isn’t anything to rust or corrode and the pump’s cord was so long that I had to measure it – it’s 25 feet long.If you’re loking for a medium-duty pump that will get the job done, this is for you.
